Memorial services for Charlie will be at 1 p.m., MST, Friday, August 17, 2007 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Interment will take place at the Almont Cemetery, Almont, ND. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time on Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Charles John Anderson was born August 12, 1919. He was adopted by Andrew John and Josephine (Larsen) Anderson. He grew up and received his education in a rural school at Almont. He worked with the CCC’s when a youth.

Charlie was united in marriage to Dorothea Ann ‘Dorothy” Schreck on March 1, 1943 at the Walter Bakken residence north of Almont. She passed away in 1963. One daughter, Karla was born to them.

Charlie farmed and ranched there for many years. He later married Dorothy Mae Vaughan. He sold the farm and they went traveling before settling down in Grassy Butte, ND for a few years. Charlie was a rural mail carrier, made jewelry from rocks, worked in the oil field and had a wood working shop, until they moved to Arkansas.

His daughter brought him back to North Dakota in 2001. Needing extra care he lived in an adult foster home in Dunn Center and Dickinson for a little over a year each respectively. He entered St. Benedict’s Health Center in June of 2005. Charlie had been a long time member of the Almont Lutheran Church.

Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially liked doing wood work. He never lost his love of people or his gift of gab…he was always known for his big smile.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Ernie Akovenko (who was like a son to him); grandsons, Shane Akovenko, Bismarck, ND, and Lance Akovenko, Minneapolis, MN; and two precious great-granddaughters, McKenna Akovenko, Dickinson, and Sienna Akovenko, Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by both his parents, and both of his wives.

He will be missed by many. “Happy Birthday, Big Papa”
