Cordell Francis Volesky, 60, Belfield, died on Monday, August 26, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Cordell’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Fr. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military Honors will be provided by the Mandan American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Robert Stockert presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Cordell was born February 11, 1964 in Minot, the son of Andrew and Louise (Frederick) Volesky. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, graduating from Dickinson High School and earning a heavy equipment certification from Dickinson State College. From 1982 to 1989, Cordell served in the Army National Guard, rising to the rank of sergeant. He worked various jobs throughout his life in the food industry, manufacturing, road construction, and oilfield until he finally found his dream job working with heavy equipment at the North American Coal Freedom Mine in Beulah.
Cordell had a special place in his heart for music, even writing some of his own songs. He also enjoyed drawing in his free time, and he jumped into numerous DIY projects with enthusiasm. Cordell was a private person, but those who met him quickly noticed his generosity. He was a loving man who was always willing to help out when needed. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew; his sister, Geraldine Kubas; his grandparents, John and Cecilia Frederick and Clement and Philomina Volesky.
Cordell is survived by his mother, Louise Volesky, Dickinson; his siblings, Calvin Volesky, Curtis (Joyce) Volesky, Joan (Allan) Ott, Clyde (Roxana) Volesky, and Casey (Judy) Volesky; brother-in-law, Dean Kubas; nieces and nephews, Kristy Volesky, Roxann Volesky, Shawn (David) Volesky Oster, Christopher (Kaley) Volesky, Nichole (Mike) Hammeren, Amanda (Christopher) Kessel, Brian Ott, Amber (Jeremy) Ficek, Erin (Zeb) Humphrey, Andrea (Tom) Krebs, Andrew (Rebecca) Volesky, Benjamin (Hosanna) Volesky, Dakota (Rachelle) Volesky, Jeremy Cansler, Valerie Cansler, Meaghan (Zach) Radd, and Ryan (Taylor) Cheesman; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
