Cyrus Eugene Hartman, age 71, son of Clarence and Catherine Hartman, passed away on July 31, 2026 in hospice care. Cy’s Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, ND with Rev. John Van Haneghan as officiant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Cyrus is survived by his wife, Patrice (Johnson) Hartman; daughter and son in law, Kira (Hartman) and James Judson; sister, Charlotte Morey, a niece and nephew, Melissa and Christopher Morey; and five grandchildren, Nathan, David, Samuel, Zane and Claire Judson. He also leaves behind many friends and extended family members.
Cyrus grew up on the family farm in Regent, ND and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He attended school at Regent Public School, ND and graduated from high school at Deming NM. He attended New Mexico State University and Wartburg College, Waverly IA, majoring in music. He farmed, worked many additional jobs and cared for his parents and family with dedication for his entire life.
Music was his passion and he was a member of many musical groups over the years. Jazz band, concert band, El Paso Symphony, Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Bismarck Mandan Symphony, many dance bands and a few brass groups. A few of their names were the Occasional Brass, Dakota Gold, Rhythms of the Hart and Brickhouse Jazz. He played bass trombone, bass guitar, upright bass, baritone, trumpet and sang. Music was his joy and peace in life, which he shared with his entire community.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend. He was always looking for ways to help those he loved and cared for in each of those roles. He will be missed, but we know that he is enjoying the beauty of heaven, out of pain, and rejoicing in the presence of our savior.
