Dale Hewson, 84, Dickinson, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at his home. Dale’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, August 19, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Lisa Lewton and Rev. Cal Oraw officiating. Interment will follow at the Medora Cemetery, Medora. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the family present to greet friends at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Donovan Dale Hewson was born July 17, 1929 at Dickinson, the son of Gilbert and Ruth (Liden) Hewson. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, graduating from Dickinson High School, and then attended Dickinson State Teachers College for two years. In addition to his family farm duties, during his time in high school and college he played in several dance bands and worked construction during the summers. Dale went on to earn a degree from North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo in 1953.

Dale was united in marriage to Virginia Ray on May 12, 1952, in Moorhead, Minn. Together they made their home in Dickinson. He taught the  On the Farm Training program for local Korean War Veterans, and when that program ended he taught for a period of time at Dickinson State College. While teaching at DSC, he organized their first rodeo team that went on to claim First place in the region and Third place in the Nation in 1957-58.

He was a farmer, rancher, entrepreneur throughout his life; he also became a successful business man. He owned and operated KIMM Trailer Court, KIMM Liquor, and KIMM Kamperama. In 1993 they developed a new business, Diamond H  Rentals  and moved to their present log home.

Dale belonged to the St. Anthony Club. He enjoyed welding, and single handedly made all the fences, gates, and livestock handling equipment on their place. He loved big tractors and other farm equipment as well. He did most of the building on their place. Cabin, garage, and many outbuildings.
