Daphne Hibl, 85, Dickinson, died on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at CHI St. Alexius Dickinson. Daphne’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Ryan Martire as celebrant. Interment will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, New Hradec. Visitation will be on Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Leonard Krebs presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church.   

Daphne was born May 27, 1939 to William and Mildred (Polensky) Kalanek. They lived at the homestead farm north of Dickinson until the age of 5, when the family moved to Dickinson.

She attended Dickinson schools, Dickinson High School, Dickinson State Teachers College and UND where she earned a BSW degree and ND License in Social Work.

She taught school in Mott, ND (St. Vincent’s) and rural schools in Dunn and Stark Counties. After earning her degree and Licensed Social Work (LSW) credential, she worked at Badlands Human Service Center and at St. Luke’s Nursing Home as the Director of Social Work.

On June 27, 1960, she married Leonard A. Hibl at St. Patrick’s Church in Dickinson. They worked together on their grain and dairy farm in Dunn County where they lived and raised their sons. After the passing of her husband, Leonard A., she moved into Dickinson.

She was a member of NASW and LTC SWND, Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters, CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary and volunteer, and Czech Heritage Society.

She enjoyed playing cards, all music and getting together with friends, old and new! Going to Medora was a favorite summer outing. She loved family most of all and was faithful with daily prayers for them.

She is survived by sons, Leonard H. (Denelle) Hibl, and Loran (Alida) Hibl; grandchildren, Garrett (Darcy) Hibl, Austin (Paige) Hibl, Kelsey (Eric) Holmgren, and Steven Fixen; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, August, Hayes, Saylor and Cy Hibl, and Freya and Oskar Holmgren; brother and sister-in-law, Vince R. (Georgie) Hibl; sister-in-law, Connie Kalanek; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard A Hibl; granddaughter, Kara (Hibl) Fixen; her parents; brothers, William John and Gary Kalanek; sister and brother-in-law, Vivien (Ben) Miller; and in-laws, Laudie D. (Lavarre) Hibl, Albert (Margaret) Hibl, and Hattie (Vince) Ficek.
