Darlene “Dell” Adella Schaper was born January 26, 1935 to Henry and Katherina (Stohler) Schaper in Halliday. Dell was one of 13 musical children in the Schaper family. Her childhood was filled with singing, playing guitar, and dancing. Church and farm life were also big parts of her growing up years. Dell graduated from Halliday High school, and attended business school in Omaha, Neb.
Dell married Alf Lindborg in 1956. They had six children; Randy, Candice, Tami, Roddy, Ronny, and Tarra. They lived in Hurdsfield, Upton, Wyo., and Sheridan, Wyo. She was the choir director, PTA officer, scout leader, den mother, Band Booster President, and a very devoted mom.
In 1975, she divorced and moved home to North Dakota with her six children and one granddaughter. In Hazen, she directed the children’s choir at church, and enjoyed being reunited with her musical brothers and sisters. Dell married Robert Glenn Thompson in 1978 after moving to Dickinson. They loved camping, fishing, and spending time with the kids and grandkids.
Dell worked for Sodexo Food Service at Dickinson State University where she loved all of her students who often referred to her as “Mom”. She spent countless hours in her yard and garden. Spending time at her grandchildren’s band, choir and musical events, and sporting events gave Dell pure joy. She was also a faithful DSU Bluehawk sports and music fan. When you think of someone who lived for their children, Dell “LIVED” for her kids and grandkids. She often cooked large family meals bringing everyone together as often as possible. She relished cooking and baking. Dell was a beloved member of Living Word Fellowship. She took part in Bible studies, and church events frequently.
