Darlene “Chunks” Fritz, 68, of Belfield passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, December 5, 2020. Chunks was born June 12, 1952 in Dickinson to Walter and Elaine (Pauly) Schaff. She was raised in the Belfield community and attended high school there.

She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Rocky Fritz on July 28, 1969. To this union, two sons were born, Erik Leslie and Jerad Walter. Chunks and Rocky raised their sons on the family ranch instilling in them their hard work ethics, but also their love of hunting and fishing. This is something they enjoyed doing together when time allowed.

Chunks, having a competitive spirit was involved in various competitions throughout her life ranging from arm wrestling to body building and fishing to competitive shooting. She could always be counted on to have an entry in the annual “Big Buck” contest. Chunks was an advocate for shooting sports as well as the fundraising, grant writing and development of young shooters. She was also a life member of the NRA and a devout fan of the Green Bay Packers. She had an extensive collection of elephant figurines.

It was well known that if you entered her home, you would leave many pounds heavier. She also enjoyed sewing for family and friends. Chunks was a special woman with a great love for family and friends and will be incredibly missed by her survivors.

Chunks is survived by her two sons, Erik (Alicia) Fritz and Jerad (Sarah) Fritz; her siblings, Dennis (Karla) Schaff, Dale (Mary Lou) Schaff, Curt Schaff, Peggy Schaff, and Patty (Ron) Fitterer; five grandchildren: Pete Fritz, Beth (Ray) Rembold, Stephanie (Matt) Hanvold, Madison Fritz, Owen Fritz; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rocky who passed on June 15, 2017; her parents Walter and Elaine Schaff; mother-in-law, Ollie (Smedley) Fritz; father-in-law, Les Fritz; her sister, Donna (Schaff) Luck; and dear friend, Mark Phelps.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bismarck Cancer Center and/or the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
