Darren Lee Hanson, 59, a beloved brother, nephew, uncle, and cousin to many, passed away on October 3, 2024, after a lifelong battle with mental illness. Darren’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Pastor Tyler Doohen as officiant. Inurnment will take place at Belfield Lutheran Cemetery.

Darren was born on December 14, 1965, in Fargo, ND, and was lovingly adopted by Larry Gene Hanson of Williston, ND, and Shirley Ann (Olson) Hanson of Ray, ND.

He graduated from Ranum High School in 1984 and pursued an IT degree at Denver Technical Institute, completing it in 1986. Shortly after, Darren accepted a position at Honeywell, where he worked until 1993, when he relocated to Breckenridge, TX. In 1996, he returned to Dickinson, ND, to be closer to family. While living in North Dakota, Darren successfully ran a lawn maintenance and trash removal business, while also working at JC Penney for over eight years.

A passionate collector, Darren enjoyed Star Wars memorabilia, Legos, and coins. He loved traveling and had a special talent for finding unique treasures wherever he went. Known for his humor, Darren often delighted in sharing jokes, sometimes with a punchline that surprised his audience.

Darren is survived by his sister, Rita Hanson of Oklahoma City, OK; his nephews, Daniel Bohl and Connor Bohl of South Heart, ND; his niece, Morgan McCord; and his great-niece, McKinley McCord of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Glen and Shirley Hanson of Kersey, CO; his aunt, Bonnie Wolfgram of Dickinson, ND; and many loving cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Gene and Shirley Ann Hanson of South Heart, ND; his grandparents, Melvin and Gladys Hanson of Williston, ND; and Clifford and Myrtle Olson of Tioga, ND.

Darren’s unique spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
