David J. Miller was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 14, 1937, along with his twin brother Dennis A. Miller. When he and his brother were 17 years old, they joined the U.S. Air Force and after basic training and tech school David was assigned to Bentwaters, England for 3 ½ years. He then was assigned to Grand Forks Air Force Base at Grand Forks, ND. It was here that he met Eileen whom he married in 1959, David served overseas assignments to England, Africa, Viet Nam, and Thailand plus several bases in the United States. David was very proud of the fact that for 22 years his obligation was to supply parts and equipment to keep the aircraft “flying ready” as well as supplies and vehicle equipment for the base. He was awarded the Air Force Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Commendation Medal. After he retired from the Air Force, he became an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance for 26 years and belonged to the Legion of Honor.
David loved to go on mission trips with Eileen. He served as an Elder at Hillside Baptist Church and served in various ministries in the Church. He worked at Crystal Springs Bible Camp and for many years he was active with the Gideons. He enjoyed watching his children participate in sports, watching his son Jeff play basketball, son Scott coach volleyball and daughter Susan play volleyball. He enjoyed playing golf. He encouraged his son Jeff to follow him to work with State Farm as an adjuster and later become a member of the catastrophic team.
David leaves his beloved wife, Eileen; children, Jeff (Sandra), Scott (Maria), and Susan (Richard) Martinez; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnon and Cecille Miller; twin brother, Dennis (Barbara) Miller; brothers, Raleigh Miller, and Mark Miller; mother and father-in-law, David and Minnie Hirschkorn; sisters-in-law, Deloris (David) Geinger, and Margene (Walter) Filler.
David had a most positive attitude. His personal quote as he retired, “Be ready and willing to serve in any area and have fun doing it.”
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Gideons, or to the Baptist Care Center, Bismarck.
