Diane Bernhardt, 77, Dickinson, formerly of Richardton died Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Sunset Drive Prospera Community, Mandan. Diane’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, with Fr. Thomas Wordekemper, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Ron Wolberg presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Diane E. Schmidt was born February 17, 1940 at Richardton, the daughter of John J. and Theresa (Link) Schmidt. She was raised and educated south of Richardton where she attended Plum Creek Country School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She went on to attend Dickinson State Teachers College.

Diane married Howard Bernhardt June 1, 1959 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church south of Richardton. They farmed north of Taylor where they also raised four children. Howard died February 14, 1985. A few years later she moved into Dickinson with their youngest daughter Nicole.

She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Diane enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, sewing and reading. She attended Bible study and volunteered at various organizations.

Diane is survived by three daughters, Teresa (Stewart) Flemming, Palatine, Ill., Melinda (Greg) Tindel, Houston, Texas, and Nicole Bernhardt, Dickinson; five grandchildren, Matthew Bernhardt, Allison Tindel, Dylan (Melina) Tindel, Lucas (Natasha) Flemming and Michael (Chisato) Flemming; two great-grandchildren, Noah Flemming and Angel Tindel; two brothers, Floyd (Laveta) Schmidt, Auburn, Wash., and Tim (Gloria) Schmidt, Fargo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents; and her son Michael Bernhardt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
