Donald F. Kaisershot, age 81, of Sutherlin Ore., died October 25, 2018, in Roseburg Ore., due to Pneumonia. Don’s Funeral Service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Terry Olson officiating.
Donald Kaisershot, son of Frank and Mary (Karsky) Kaisershot, was born May 10, 1937, in Dickinson, North Dakota. Attending grade school for five years in a county one-room school, Don graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul school in New Hradec in 1951. He then attended Campus High School, graduating in 1955. He attended Dickinson State Teachers College, graduating in 1959. While attending college, Don was a member of the North Dakota National Guard in Dickinson, and also began his musical career playing saxophone and clarinet with the Royal Melody Orchestra.
Don married Eleanor Kuchynski on June 6, 1963. They had three children. Kreg was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Karla and Kelly were born in Williston, North Dakota.
As a teacher at the high school, post-secondary, and college level, Don’s career took him to various areas of the United States. His first position was as a business teacher and band director at Noonan. He then left teaching to pursue a Master’s Degree from the University of North Dakota in 1963. The next teaching position took him and Ellie to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, where their first son, Kreg, was born. Don’s next teaching assignments were at the UND Williston Center, Williston, Chadron State College, Chadron Neb., Bemidji Area Vocational –Technical Institute, Bemidji, Minn. and finally to the Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls, Ore.
As an instructor and college professor, Don held memberships in education organizations of the Bemidji Education Association, Minnesota Vocational Association, American Vocational Association, Minnesota Word Processing Association, and the National Business Education Association.
Some of Don’s non-teaching positions included being a Farmers Union Insurance Agent at Elgin, Secretary-Treasurer of the McKenzie County Cooperative Credit Union at Watford City, school bus driver for the Dickinson Public Schools, (PIP) Postal Instant Press Offset operator, Greens/Fairway mower at the Dickinson Golf Course, RSVP Computer operator at the Dickinson State University, and door greeter at Kmart in Dickinson.
As a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Don served the congregation in the capacity of Church council secretary and also as a Trustee.
Don’s favorite hobby was playing old –time music with various bands for some 40 years. Other hobbies included motorcycling, horse shoes, bowling, and golf.
Don is survived by two sons, Kreg, Oakland, Ore.; and Kelly, Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Karla (Paul) Didier, Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren, Brianne (Cameron) White, Brett (Amny) Didier; Nickolas Kaisershot, and Kayla Kaisershot; two brothers, Dale (Tara) Kaisershot, Omaha Neb; Glenn (Coleen) Kaisershot, Omaha; Three sisters, Angeline Kostelecky, Dickinson; Evelyn Riedl, Phoenix, Ariz.; Georgianne Tofte, Williston.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank T. and Mary C. Kaisershot; brother, Alfred (Violet); niece, Michelle Scheeler; and nephew Cary Kostelecky.
