Donald M. Adams, 71, Dickinson died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Don’s memorial service will be at 10:30 am, Monday, October 6, 2008 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with his son, Dean Adams officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 8 am until service time.
Donald M. Adams was born April 6, 1937 to William and Margaret (Blakely) Adams at Grassy Butte. He was raised on the family ranch northeast of Grassy Butte and attended school in Grassy Butte. Don joined the US Army in May 1955 and was honorably discharged in May 1957. While in the army Don was stationed in Germany. After his discharge Don returned to N.D. and participated in rodeo events throughout the upper mid-west. He married Randi Lawhead on July 15, 1961 at Killdeer. Don worked in the oil fields of N.D., Mont., Wyo., and Calif.. His last job lasted 19 years where he and Randi lived in Las Vegas, Nev., before they moved back home to N.D. in February 2008.
Don enjoyed traveling, WW II history, and following information on rodeo events, but mostly, time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife, Randi; three children, Dean (Sherry) Adams, Dickinson, Wade (Shauna) Adams, LaQuinta, Calif., and Beth (Mike) Featherston, Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren, Melinda (Ian), Steven, Gabe, Laine, Tyann, and Quinn; two brothers Bill (Lou) Adams, Corvallis, Mont., and Doug (Rosemary) Adams, Riverside, Wash.; four sisters Jean Christensen, Killdeer, Betty (Don) Hoffmann, Watford City, Lois (Lyle) Frankl, Dickinson, and Carol (Skip) Goddard, Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the N.D. Cowboy Hall of Fame.
