Dorathy Schmidt, 92, Dickinson, entered Heaven on Friday, October 26, 2018. Dorathy’s Funeral Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating. Interment will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Dorathy Langendorff was born on May 20, 1926 at St Joseph’s Hospital to Karl Nicolas and Olive (Palmeter) Langendorff, the youngest of four children.

After graduating from Model High in 1943, Dorathy taught school for 10 years in Dunn & Stark Counties, then attended Dickinson State Teachers College for 3 years.

Dorathy married Richard G. Schmidt, June 17, 1954.  The two of them owned & operated Schmidt Dairy Queen and Dairy Barn thru some 32 years.

She was an active member of Scandinavian Ethnic Group, Northern Plains Heritage Foundation, Home Makers Club, and Dorcas Society.

Dorathy loved making and creating things with her hands. In her favorite place, the kitchen, love and joy flowed through cooking, wedding and birthday cakes, candles, ceramics, and candies. Baking whole wheat bread from freshly ground ND wheat was her delight.

Dorathy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard; children Craig (Mary), in Antler, Blaine (Robin), Anchorage, Alaska and Marla Beth (Spike Quainoo) Schmidt, Bismarck; three grandsons, Ryan (Cecily), Brandon (Margaret), and Kelley (Ashley); two great-grandsons,  Killian and Breckin; two step-granddaughters, Sarah Deimling and Jennifer Merly; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Helen (Victor) Zander, Karl (Dorothy) Langendorff, and Fred Duane (Barbara) Langendorff.
