It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Dorothy Fitterer of Dickinson, North Dakota, who died on October 9, 2024. Dorothy’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Msgr. Thomas Richter presiding. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New England. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 6 p.m. with Deacon Leonard Krebs presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the mass at the church on Tuesday.

Dorothy was born on July 9, 1941 to Michael and Mary Eva Wanner and grew up in Schefield, North Dakota. She attended the School Sisters of Notre Dame Convent in Mankato, Minnesota for three years, but decided to finish high school at St. Mary’s in New England. Shortly after graduation she proudly became an early employee at Baker Boy. Then she met her favorite dance partner, Paul and they married in May of 1961.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loyal friend to many.

Dorothy dedicated her life to faith, her family, farming. Whether it was milking cows, painting, or playing pinochle, she approached everything with love and grace. Her family will fondly remember her sharp attention to detail, her strong will, her humor, and her unwavering commitment to—soap operas! She also had a deep love for fishing, bowling, baking, gardening, and reading. A trip to Dairy Queen for a hot fudge sundae was her spontaneous treat. Dorothy’s warmth and passions were as wide-ranging as they were full of heart, making every moment with her a treasured one.

She is survived by her devoted husband Paul of 63 years; sons, Dave (Janie) Fitterer and Steve (Brenda) Fitterer; grandchildren, Stacey (Robert) Sparks, Nicole (Nick) Jay, Matthew Fitterer, Beth (Justin) Beckman, Paul Fitterer, and Peter Fitterer; great grandchildren, Jacob Sparks, Evelyn Sparks, Henry Paul Sparks, Shelby Jay, Leah Beckman, Cooper Jay, Charlie Sparks, and Sarah Beckman; sisters, Benni (Richard) Privratsky, Marilyn Reinhart, Emi (Mark) Brennan; and brother, Donnie (Robin) Wanner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale; and brother Toby.

Dorothy’s kindness, generosity, and sense of humor will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
