Douglas was born December 6, 1976, in Dickinson, the son of Orest T. “Ernie” and Phyllis (Schuld) Baranko. He was raised and educated in Fairfield area having attended Prairie Elementary School and then graduating from Belfield High School in 1995. Doug went on to attend one year at NDSCS in Wahpeton.

Doug worked as a truck driver throughout his life, with the last six years prior to his debilitating stroke in March of 2007 he drove for Northwest Tire. Doug found joy in working on his 1968 Chevelle, and “terrorizing” his nieces and Dylan, Logan and Andrea. He enjoyed spending time on the ranch, helping with brandings and socializing. Doug by nature was a very independent and private individual, which made driving truck a good fit for him.

Doug is survived by his parents, Ernie and Phyllis; three siblings, Dale Baranko, Fairfield, Darren (Missi) Baranko, Fairfield and Deanna Baranko, Belfield; his four nieces, Tashina, Anya, Katya and Neveah; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
