Duane K. Wobig, 85, New England, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Duane’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2026 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Inurnment will take place at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Scranton.
Duane K. Wobig was born in Washington State on September 1, 1940 to Wilmar and Helen (Switzer) Wobig. The family later moved to North Dakota and settled on a farm north of Scranton. Duane graduated from Scranton High School and attended Dickinson State University for teaching. He taught Enterprise School alongside his mother and during the summer he worked as a land surveyor.
Duane moved to New England in 1964 where he taught Elementary School and he farmed during the summer. Duane later served as an Elementary Principal until his retirement.
Following his retirement, he farmed and pursued his hobby of traveling, bird watching, and fishing. His goal was to travel to all 50 states and every town in North Dakota which he accomplished. Through the years, he crossed off many of those states as well as National Parks with his travel companion Dorothy Redetzke.
Duane is survived by some of his cousins as well as close friends, Jerry Mellmer, Cheryl Mellmer, Jame (Janet) Mellmer and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and uncle, Vernon.
