Earl Novotny, 61, Dickinson, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at MedCenter One, Bismarck. Earl’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2009 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Gene Morman presiding.

Earl A. Novotny was born September 18, 1948 at Dickinson, the son of Anton and Rose (Ridl) Novotny. He was raised and educated in Dickinson.

Earl married Elaine Heidt on September 27, 1969 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson and they have made their home here since. Earl began a 40 year career in August of 1969 working for TMI in Dickinson and at the time of his death he was a machine operator.

Earl enjoyed gardening, playing pinochle, family gatherings and especially time spent with his grandson, Ethan. Watching funny movies, playing on the key board and listening to music from the 60’s brought him joy. Earl had a sweet tooth that carried over into his personality.

Earl is survived by his wife, Elaine; their daughter, Melissa (Aaron) Stoltz, Dickinson; grandson, Ethan, Dickinson; three sisters, Darlene (Ken) VanBilliard, Riverside, Calif., Karen (fiancée-Doug Rowe) Meyers, Dickinson, and Patty Toof, Rapid City, S.D.; and two brothers, Henry (Jean) Novotny, Dickinson, and Gilbert (Diane) Novotny, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his 15 year old brother, Anthony.
