Eleanor Leiss, 92, Dickinson died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Eleanor’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, December 1, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Father Keith Streifel as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Eleanor’s visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with the family present from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., a vigil and time of sharing will take place at 2 p.m.

Eleanor Blatz was born July 28, 1916 on the family farm in Dunn county to Bernard and Anna (Kubishta) Blatz. She was raised on the farm and attended rural school in Dunn county. Eleanor married Anton J. Leiss on September 29, 1936 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Together they farmed in Dunn county until they bought their own land in Stark county in 1946. Tony and Eleanor lived on the farm for the next 50 years but retired from farming/ranching in 1976. Eleanor moved into Evergreen in 1997 and lived there until moving to St. Benedict’s Health Center in October 2008.

Eleanor enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, dancing, and gardening. She was also an avid animal lover. Her greatest joy, however, was seeing her family.

Eleanor is survived by five sons: Larry (Ruby), Reynolds, N.D., LeRoy (Julee Reynolds), Oregon City, Ore., Alvin (Cathy), Dickinson, Randy (Caroline), Buxton, N.D. Terry, Grand Forks, N.D.; three daughters, Lorraine Hirsch, Sioux Falls, S.D., Letty (Wayne) Arvizu, Colorado Springs, Colo., Linda Leiss, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Pete, two sisters-in-law, Lillian and Rose Leiss, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, two sisters, one son-in-law, and one great-great grandchild.
