Eleanor Schwindt was born March 31, 1933 on the family farm in Dunn County, the daughter of Andrew and Katie (Heiser) Schwindt. She was raised and educated in Killdeer, Manning prior to the family moving to Dickinson where she graduated from Model High School in 1951.

Eleanor was united in marriage to Bill Murphy, Jr. on June 29, 1951 in Alabama while he was serving in the Army. To this union four children were born, Carol, Bill “Bumps”, Tom and Ryan. She was a stay at home mom, but had worked part time for Coast to Coast for a time.

She enjoyed bowling, playing Bridge, Pinochle and any card games. She had a talent for crocheting, having made many beautiful doilies. When she was younger the family would go to the Manning store and she would play the piano and the kids would dance to the Beer Barrel Polka. Her cooking and baking skills led to many delicious German dishes, and oh so good breads and cookies. She loved getting her hair done and will be remembered for her strong faith in the Lord.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Carol (Bill) Petersen, Middle River, Minn., Bill (Joan) Murphy, Dickinson, and Tom (Amy) Murphy, Eden Prairie, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Renae Murphy, Katy, Texas; grandchildren, Amy, Kris, Sarah, Kelly, Andy, Scott, Alexandra, Isabel and Eliza; great-grandchildren, Ava, Lauren, Conner, Cole, Landen, Taylor, Lincoln, Skylar, Elliott, Chase and Kajer; and her sisters, Mary Stroh, Caroline Dillinger, Betty Kuntz, Delores (Gene) Glaser, and Jeanette (Dick) Stradinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on July 9, 2003; son, Ryan; parents; sister, Julia Gunwall; brothers-in-law, John Gunwall, Leo Kuntz, Mike Dillinger, and Dan Stroh; and nephew, David Kuntz.
