Elizabeth Freida Beierlein was born on August 13, 1911 to Nick and Anna (Fritz) Beierlein on a farm northeast of Glen Ullin, known as the Bluegrass area. She was the second daughter of four, born to Nick and Anna. In her childhood years the family moved many times. Elizabeth graduated from Dawson County High in Glendive, Mont.

Following graduation she worked various places; a steam laundry, Mrs. Anderson’s cabins and the fabulous Krug Mansion as a housemaid, cook, etc.

On March 31, 1937 she was united in marriage to Anton Kottre at Miles City, Mont. Together they worked at the Herzog Dairy at Miles City. In 1940, they returned to North Dakota where they both were born and began farming north of Glen Ullin. To this union, one daughter Marlene was born.

Elizabeth was a very accomplished homemaker. She was known for her wonderful bread made from home milled flour, her excellent Hungarian strudel, nut roll and her tasty one of a kind bean soup.

They retired from the farm to the city of Glen Ullin in 1987. Her husband Anton died December 9, 2001. She thoroughly enjoyed life there and lived independently ‘til 2008 when she entered a care facility. She was also an avid gardener and for pleasure she enjoyed embroidering which she continued until age 99. She leaves us with many memorable pieces that display her work.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Marlene (Val) Staudinger; grandchildren, Brenda (Gregg) Synnes, Debbie (Randy) Kuntz, Cindy (Dave) Selinger, Brad (Janet) Staudinger and Justin Staudinger; great-grandchildren, Lacia, Ashton (Kristen Youren), and Jaxon Synnes, Alyssa, Chandra, and Braden Selinger, Jalyn (Marcus) McGill, and Sam Staudinger; and great-great-grandson, Gregory Carter Synnes. She was preceded in death by her husband Anton and all of her sisters and most of her nieces and nephews.
