Elmo R. Elkins, 88, Taylor, died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his home. Elmo’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Taylor Lutheran Church with Rev. Bob Wittstruck officiating. Interment will follow at the Pioneer Cemetery, south of Taylor. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Elmo R. Elkins was born August 30, 1922 on the family farm south of Taylor, the son of John and Millie (Knudson) Elkins. He was raised and educated south of Taylor, graduating from Taylor High School in 1941.
Elmo married Vivian Wahlers, on July 29, 1950 at the Taylor Lutheran Church. Elmo has spent most of his life on the family farm. He started helping on the farm at a young age and continued there until retiring in 1998, when they moved into Taylor. He had also worked many years for the ASC, measuring land and grain bins.
Elmo was a member for many years of the Taylor School Board, Secretary for the Rural Fire Department, Taylor Lutheran Church Board, FHA Board, ASC Board, Stark County Reorganization School Board, and the Taylor Lion’s Club. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, rug hooking, hunting and fishing.
Elmo is survived by his wife, Vivian, Taylor; three children, Kenneth (Rebecca) Elkins, Taylor, Naomi Elkins, Bismarck, and Keith (Mariane) Elkins, Taylor; seven grandchildren, Seth Elkins, Bismarck, Stacy (Danny) Braun, Dickinson, Tyler (friend-Kacy) Elkins, Golden Valley, Shane Elkins, Taylor, Dustin (Mandy) Elkins, Taylor, Beth (Jarrod) Simek, Dickinson, and Brandon (fiancée-Casey) Elkins, Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Sydney Elkins, Taylor; one brother, Earl (Clara) Elkins, Dickinson; three sisters, Beulah Swendside, Calif., Florence (Bill) Temple, Ariz., and Francis Goetz, Minn. He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Memorials are preferred to the Diabetes or American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
