Elsie F. Hintz, 91, Dickinson, died Monday, September 6, 2010, at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Funeral services for Elsie will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Dickinson United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott McKirdy officiating. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Elsie Freda Roehl was born May 10, 1919 in Grant County of North Dakota, the daughter of John and Justina Roehl. She was raised and educated in Grant County and while growing up she did domestic house work for area families.

Elsie married Arthur P. Hintz on May 16, 1936 on the Samuel Hintz farm near Glen Ullin, and together they farmed in the area until 1950. Together they worked as custodians at the school while living in Mott, and when they moved to New Leipzig she became the school cook. The family lived in Valley City for a period of time prior to moving to Dickinson in 1967. While in Valley City and Dickinson she worked mostly as a waitress, and also served as a House Mother in the dorms at Dickinson State.

Elsie belonged to the RSVP as a volunteer at the ARC Aid, and also at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. She enjoyed baking brownies and Kuchen, and also belonging to the women’s fellowship group at her church.

Elsie is survived by her three sons, Edgar (Carol) Hintz, Dickinson, Elmer (JoAnne) Hintz, Missoula, Mont., and Lester (Karyl) Hintz, Blue Earth, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 30 grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucille Straub, Fargo, and Leona Wutzke, Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur on October 17, 2005; her parents; brothers, Emil and Edwin; and sisters, Pauline, Martha, Viola and Edna.
