Elsie Franchuk, 90, Dickinson, died Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Elsie’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2020, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Christian Smith as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m.

Elsie A. Bren was born April 25, 1930 in New Hradec, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Stranik) Bren. She was raised and educated in New Hradec.

Elsie was united in marriage to Edmund Franchuk on July 7, 1953 at Sts. Peter and Paul in New Hradec. After a short time of farming, they made Dickinson their home.

She belonged to Catholic Daughters, Elks, was a Eucharistic minister and volunteered at St. Benedict’s. She loved baking, gardening, and crocheting.

Elsie is survived by her children, Dean (Mary Klug), Dickinson, Arlen (Sandy Davis), Frazee, Minn., Curtiss (Marc Parker), Gastonia, N.C., Caryn Bertel (Brian), Maple Grove, Minn., Brian (Terri), Windsor, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund; great-granddaughter, Angel Knight; her siblings, Barbara (John Mehluky), Louie (Christine Meduna), William (Rose Dvorak), Tony (Anna Binstock), Eleanore (Vince Pavlicek), Albert (Bertha Karsky), Charlie (Lillian Sadowsky), Sr. Mary Elsa Bren, Jerry (Dorothy Sadowsky), Frank Jr., George, and Lillian.
