Elton D. Witt, 80, Dickinson, Went home to be with the Lord in Heaven on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Sanford Health, Bismarck, following a courageous battle with cancer. Elton’s funeral service will be on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 10 a.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Irvin Bruenjes officiating. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors proved by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, and will continue on Friday from 8 a.m. to service time.
Elton Daniel Witt was born October 13, 1933 at Halliday, the son of Theodore and Dorothy (Frei) Witt. He was raised and educated at Grassy Butte. Elton served honorably in the United States Army from February 13, 1953 to December 16, 1954.
He returned to the Grassy Butte area where he ranched with his family. On February 9, 1959 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Virginia Rose Thomas. Elton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend. He will be remembered for his hard work on the farm, his love for playing pinochle, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his two children, Larry (Ann) Witt, Dickinson, and Kari (Jody) Borg, Holdrege, Neb.; six grandchildren, Tyler, Renae, Kyle, Allen, Amanda, and Ashley; four great-grandchildren, Casey, Torri, Lane and Sidney; sisters, Ruby Chernenko, Grassy Butte, and Linda Watson, Grassy Butte; his special companion for the past several years, Eileen Steffen; and his sister-in-law, Caroline Witt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Rose on April 10, 2005; his parents; an infant son, Scotty Lee Witt; brothers, Raymond, Ed, and Eugene; and his sister, Esther.
