Emelia Joan Sabo, 94, Dickinson, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at CHI St. Alexius, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 6:30 p.m. with Deacon Ross Reiter presiding.

Emelia was born on July 15, 1926 to Lawrence and Mary Eva (Keller) Heilman in Dickinson. She was the sixth of 13 children. Her siblings were Phillip, Margaret, Casper, Maggie, Joe, George, John, Marie, Tillie, Polly, Florence, and Irene. They lived on a farm northeast of Dickinson near the Green River. She attended and graduated from a small country school called Versippi School.

She married Henry Sabo on March 31, 1948 and they moved onto a farm near Golva. Soon after, they moved, onto the Ed Culver farm northeast of Dickinson. Here they were dairy farmers and raised their eight children, four girls and four boys.

Emelia was a very good German cook. Anyone that came to the farm never left without having a delicious meal or a piece of pie. Her fantastic home cooked meals and baked goods will truly be missed. Having such a large family she always grew a huge garden and spent many late nights canning and freezing her goods. She had many talents which some were her crocheting and embroidery. Emelia has left her family and friends with many treasured gifts to remember her by. Thanks Mom!

Emelia had a very kind heart and soul. Her faith in God is what carried her through the hard times in life. She was always praying the rosary for someone that needed help. Sometimes that meant many times a day. She is now at peace with her savior God. God bless you Mom! We love you!

Emelia is survived by her children, Kenneth Sabo, Mandan, Mary Kay (Roger) Gazur, Beulah, Katherine (Tom) Krebs, Dickinson, Lawrence (Pat) Sabo, Beach, Jeanne (Allan) Halter, Dickinson, Sharon Sabo, Bismarck, Gary Sabo, Mandan, and Donald (Sandy) Sabo, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and siblings, Joe (Agnes) Heilman, John (Marge) Heilman, Marie Heilman, Florence (Ervin) Heidecker, and Irene Praus.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, on September 24, 2007; her parents; brothers, Phillip, Casper, and George; and sisters, Maggie, Tillie, Polly, and Margaret; and a daughter-in-law, Deb Sabo.

A special thank you to Evergreen Retirement Home, Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer, and CHI St. Alexius Health Center for the loving care they gave Emelia.
