Emma was born July 15, 1912 on the farm southwest of Regent to Emmanual and Magdalena Huether with Dr. Hill attending. She was the fifth child of twelve children. Emma went to a country school in Wagendorf Township. One of her teachers was Leonard Prince.
On June 9, 1930, Emma was married to Steven Magelky and she became the Mother of five children: Evelyn (James) Halvorson, Danelda Steier, Alvina Soehren, Larry Magelky, and Connie (Don) Wolf. Emma and Steve retired to New England, in 1969 after farming for many years in the Regent area. After Steve passed away in 1987, Emma moved to Pioneer Haven in Dickinson. While living there, she worked in the kitchen and retired at the age of 97. Emma was a hard worker all her life. She made the best home-grown fried chicken, meatballs and sauerkraut, and the very best strudel.
Emma moved to Evergreen in Dickinson when she was 104 and to Hilltop Care Center in Killdeer when she was 105 years old.
She loved old time music and did a lot of her own recording. She loved baby chicks in the Spring, playing cards, and putting puzzles together. She enjoyed embroidering sets of dishtowels and did this until she was 103. She took pleasure in telling and hearing a good joke.
Emma is survived by her five children; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great- grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandsons; one granddaughter; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; one great- grandchild; her parents; six brothers; five sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
