Emma Mittelstedt Weisenberger March 27, 1917 - April 27, 2016

Emma Mittelstedt Weisenberger, 99, Dickinson, passed peacefully Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson after a brief illness. Graveside services for Emma will take place at the Killdeer Cemetery, Killdeer.

Emma Kind was born in Dunn County on March 27, 1917 to John and Frederika (Messmer) Kind. Emma married Herbert Mittelstedt in 1936 and farmed north of Killdeer until his death in 1981. They raised four children while being active in church activities, politics, gardening and family get-togethers. Emma is especially remembered for her marvelous abilities to bake, prepare wonderful German Strudel and contributions to church potlucks and such. Educated to only the eighth grade, she endeavored to make up for what she’d missed by becoming very well read on many topics. After being widowed for eight years, Emma married Gust Weisenberger from Halliday. They moved to Dickinson and together enjoyed traveling and Gus’ great humor. She was once again widowed after five years.

Emma loved the Lord, her husbands, her children, her wonderful grandchildren, and all of her eight sisters and one brother. Her life spanned times of great change personally and globally. She was born during WWI; farmed during WWII; saw the prosperity of the 50’s; the culture changes of the 60-80’s; from being a great horse back rider to embracing air travel and cell phones. Emma was the last of the “Kind girls” and longed to be reunited with her family. She came to know the Lord in 1980 in a deeper personal way and was at peace with whatever life brought her after that time. She loved and was loved.

Emma is survived by four children, Herb (Diane) Mittelstedt, Bismarck, Milton (Phyllis) Mittelstedt, Portland, Ore., Kayleen (Rich) Wardner, Dickinson, and Harlan (Vicki) Mittelstedt, Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; infant daughter, Linda Mae; her parents; husband, Gus; and all her Kind siblings and their spouses, Minnie Meskie, Henrietta Helm Trusskey, Louise Kittilson, Amelia Wierson, Toby Kind, Lena Selle, Laura Wierson, and Alice Kempf.
