Ernest Tormaschy, 81, Gladstone, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital, Denver, Colo. Ernest’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Interment will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 6 p.m., Friday with Deacon Kris Ringwall presiding.

Ernie was born September 20, 1935 son of Henry and Catherine (Pfeiffer) Tormaschy. Ernie grew up in Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School. Ernie was born and raised a farmer and after serving in the Army from 1956-1958 he returned to Gladstone to continue his own farm.

Ernie married Elaine Hauck on June 29, 1965. They had four children Paula, Susan, Mark and Clara. He worked at Stockmens and at the same time was managing Bar 11 Feedlot. Ernie sponsored the youth softball and volleyball teams. He owned the land where the Green River Rock Concerts were held and ran the concession stand. The real “Footloose” in Gladstone, North Dakota.

In 1964, Ernie joined K of C and in 1970 he joined the Fourth Degree under the Gregory Borski Assembly. Ernie held most positions in the club including the youth activity chairman and the memorable Christmas parties at the K of C in Gladstone.

Ernie was the local veterinarian for some of the neighbors, who could not get the vet out in the middle of the night. He was also active in church, served as the Stark County Deputy Sheriff for five years, fireman and Director of Gladstone Rural Fire Department, Farmers Union Oil Board of Directors, Richardton Saddle Club, Happy Rock Farmers Union Local, Gladstone PTA, Gladstone Alumni Committee, and don’t forget the Reda Pump Man who Ernie would pull water pumps and the pumps always broke below 0.

Ernie was a jokester. He loved to make people laugh and joke.

He is survived by his wife Elaine of 51 years; his children; Paula (Hugh) King, Susan (Joe) Folks, and Clara Tormaschy; seven grandchildren, Paul James Tormaschy, Alexandria King, Samantha King, Tiana King, Kaylyn King, Jessica Tormaschy, and Jordan Tormaschy. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents; his son Mark; brothers Carl and Arthur; and his father and mother-in-law Alex J. and Hildegard Hauck.
