Ethel Hanssen, 88, Dickinson, ND died Monday, April 14, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Ethel’s funeral service will be at 7 pm, Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Michael Wolters officiating. Interment will take place at Restland Memorial Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be from 8 am to 4 pm, Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Ethel Hansen was born March 31, 1920 in Dickinson, ND, the daughter of Herman and Ingeborg (Remmem) Hansen. She graduated from Mandan High School and attended one year at Dickinson State College. She married Henry C. Hanssen on September 8, 1946. They moved to Dallas, Texas in 1954. They were blessed with six children. In 1965, she served as the first Director for Bethel Lutheran Church’s Day Care Program (Dallas, TX). After Henry’s retirement, they volunteered with Wycliffe Bible Translators, spending several months in Papua New Guinea. She also accompanied Henry to Utah for a Laborers for Christ project. They returned to Dickinson, in November, 1993.

Ethel loved Jesus Christ, one with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Her faith in Him sustained her daily. She also loved her family, made friends wherever she lived, and gave encouragement to many.

She is survived by her husband Henry, sons, David (Beth), Paul (Miskey), daughters, Grace (Garland) Gotoski, Judith, Laura (Mark) Carlson, and daughter-in-law, Carol, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Agnes, her brother, Herbert, her son, John and an infant grandson, Jonathan.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Endowment Fund at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dickinson.
