Eugene Stockert, 80, Dickinson, died Wednesday, August 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at home. Gene fought a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, all the while keeping his spirit, his humor, and his faith. Eugene’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 3 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Eugene “Gene” Stockert was born July 17, 1936 on the family farm southwest of New England, the son of Dominick and Agnes (Reisenauer) Stockert. He was raised and educated in the New England area.

Gene was united in marriage to Regina “Jean” Haag on May 29, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Together they made their home in Dickinson where they raised six children. He was an electrician, later becoming a Master Electrician and owning and operating Dickinson Electric from 1975 to retirement in 2008.

He enjoyed spending weekends at the cabin he had built in the Killdeer Mountains. Family time going hunting, fishing, trips to Canada and Lake of the Woods were cherished memories. He was a member of the Elks, St. Anthony, KC, and Beef Country Riders.

Gene passed along his patience, work ethic and love to his family. He will be remembered for his quiet sense of humor and kindness. Gene is survived by his wife, Jean; their six children, MaryAnn (Jeff “Shawn”) Steckler, West Fargo, Michael (Brenda) Stockert, Glendive, Mont., Mark Stockert, Dickinson, Sarah (Timothy Swanberg) Merbach, Wausau, Wisc., Nancy (Ron) Hinson, Madison, Wisc., and David (Lauren) Stockert, White Bear Lake, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Jacob and Amanda Steckler, Kaylee and Lakyn Hinson, Monica and John Merbach, James Stockert, and Henry Stockert; siblings, Valentine, Dickinson, Alex, Dickinson, Raymond (Mildred), Fergus Falls, Minn., Irene (Pete) Heidt, Dickinson, Edward (Ann), Dickinson, and Larry (Jodi), Audubon, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Valentine; brother, Martin; son-in-law, David Merbach; sisters-in-law, Evangeline and June Stockert; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
