Eva M. Gjermundson, 96, Taylor, died Friday, September 18, 2009 surrounded by her family at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Eva’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Taylor Lutheran Church, Taylor, with Rev. Noel T. Vold officiating. Interment will follow at the Taylor Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Eva Carlson was born near Halliday to John and Caroline (Michaelson) Carlson on August 25, 1913. She was the youngest of two children raised and educated in Halliday, and she was Baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Halliday.
Eva married Sven Gjermundson on October 17, 1930. Following their marriage they lived in the Halliday and Marshall area until moving to Taylor in 1958. While living in Taylor, Eva worked as a cook and custodian at the Taylor Public School and as custodian at the Taylor Lutheran Church. She spent many summers at the family Bible camp in Medora as an assistant cook.
Eva was very active in the Taylor Lutheran Church participating in quilting, Bible studies and the Ladies’ Aide. She also spent many years as part of the Taylor VFW Auxiliary. Eva especially enjoyed bird and train watching, and taking care of neighborhood cats. Her greatest love was her family and she will always be remembered as a kind and gentle person.
Eva is survived by her eight children, Sylvia (Bill) Wendland, Dickinson, Clara (Ingvald) Paulson, Taylor, Olga Lingle, Circle, Mont., Stanley (Sharon) Gjermundson, Marshall, Larry Gjermundson, Taylor, Paul Gjermundson, South Heart, Robert (Eileen) Gjermundson, Taylor, and June (Marlin) Rambousek, South Heart; 24 grandchildren; 62 great, grandchildren; 17 great, great, grandchildren; and one niece, Eleanor Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sven on November 3, 1980; her sister, Lillian Carlson; a nephew, Einar Carlson; a great-granddaughter, Jasmine Gjermundson; and two sons-in-law, Clarence Hansen and Evan Lingle.
