Eva Mutschelknaus, 92, Dickinson died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Eva’s funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton and Rev. Steven Tangen officiating. Interment will take place at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation for Eva will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.
Eva Helfrich was born June 23, 1916 on the family farm near Glen Ullin, the daughter of John and Katherine (Meuchel) Helfrich. She was raised and educated in the Glen Ullin area and graduated from Glen Ullin High School.
Eva married Emil Mutschelknaus on September 20, 1938 in Hebron. Following their move to Dickinson Eva worked in women’s retail clothing for over 60 years, retiring as the manager of Christopher Banks in Dickinson.
Eva was very active in business and professional women’s organizations. She was also very involved in her church where she served on the Church Council, the hospital auxiliary, the Rebekah’s, the Zonta Club, charter member of Stark County Historical Society, Life Care Foundation Board, along with many other community activities and functions. Eva was the Northern Plains Achievement Award recipient as a retailer.
Eva is survived by her son, Gary (Darlene) Mutschelknaus, Los Altos, Calif.; two grandchildren, Michelle (Paul) Largent, Mission Viejo, Calif., and Mindy Mutschelknaus, San Francisco, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Jackson Largent; one sister, Alice (Mike) Kobilansky, Glen Ullin; four brothers, Pete Helfrich, Billings, Mont., George (Irene) Helfrich, Chicago, Ill., Louie (Wilma) Helfrich, Dickinson, and John (Diane) Helfrich, Bismarck; and one sister-in-law, Ginney Helfrich. She was preceded in death by her husband Emil on July 20, 1984; her parents; three brothers, Jim, Leo and Tom; and two sisters, Pauline and Josephine.
