Our beautiful Mother, Evelyn Helen Hermann, transitioned to her Heavenly home on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
Mom’s Celebration of Life service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery.
Public visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Family members request that CDC guidelines be respected with face masks and social distancing.
Mom was born on May 3, 1925 to Lewis and Clara (Knutson) Gullickson on the family homestead north of Taylor. She was the middle child of nine and was affectionately known by her siblings and extended family as ‘Sister’ from the day she was born until her death.
Mom and Dad, (Al Hermann) attended high school together in Taylor and legend has it that on their first date Dad told her he was going to marry her someday. They were wed on June 17, 1944. Over their 62 years together they had their five daughters. We were blessed to call them our parents.
Mom was a quiet, loving, gentle soul who was full of wisdom and always had a kind word for others. She had the most positive attitude about Life and never complained. We cherish all the lessons and moral values she instilled in us. She had a sense of humor and wit that continued to give us a chuckle until her final days.
Mom was never a lover of the outdoors and always called herself ‘a houseplant’ who loved to keep her hands busy with needlework, quilting, sewing, baking, puzzles, interior painting and was an impeccable housekeeper. She loved playing games with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was an avid Hummel collector. Being a full-blooded Norwegian, Mom always had the coffee pot on and some delicious fresh baked good for whoever happened to stop by.
An essential part of Mom’s Life was her faith. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for 67 years. When she could not personally attend Sunday services, she listened to the service broadcast on KDIX.
Mom’s family was the center of her Life. She was so proud and full of Love for each and everyone of us, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a family, whenever we bid farewell upon parting we would always wave goodbye. Mom has now bid us farewell and in her parting has waved to her ‘5 J’s’ and their families, Jenniene (Merle) Parks, Joanne Fields, Janell Hermann, Jana (Shane) Sickler, Jodeen (Jerry) Myers; eight grandchildren, David (Kathy) Glaze, Kristal Fields, Alyssa Schiele, Hope (Aaron) Raley, Lenci (Jaime) Sickler, Stormie Sickler, Larissa (Jed) Kohler, Gavin Myers; six great-grandchildren, Tyler (Aubrey) Glaze, Abby Schiele, Sonora Raley, Mila Sickler, Logan Kohler, Jaylynn Kohler. Also her sisters, Edna Irwin and Blanche Naumann, sisters-in-law Gloria Gullickson, CeCe Gullickson and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was preceded in death by her loving husband, Al on August 10, 2006, her parents, siblings and spouses; Elsie (Harley) Schlapfer, Orville (Lois) Gullickson, Grant (Beatrice) Gullickson, Clarice (Tony) Kolar, Ole Gullickson and Georgene (Leonard) Bernhardt, Lyle Irwin and Earl Naumann.
We, as Mom’s family, wish to extend our deepest Gratitude to the staff and leadership at the Benedictine Living Community where Mom was a resident for almost 3 years. She was cared for, respected and treated as if a member of each of their families with the utmost Love, affection and compassion.
We also wish to thank Jim and his staff at Ladbury Funeral Service for their kindness, caring, understanding, patience and innate ability to make the perfect suggestions for our Mother’s funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Benedictine Living Community-Dickinson (St. Benedict’s Health Center) or St. John Lutheran Church (for KDIX Sunday Service Broadcast).
