Fern C. Lawrence, 95, Dickinson, died Monday, June 1, 2020 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Fern’s Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Prairie Winds United Methodist Church, Dickinson with Rev. Jerry Stravia IV officiating. Interment will take place at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Fern C. Johnson was born September 6, 1924 in Regent, the daughter of Wayne and Della (Hundermark) Johnson. She was raised near Regent and at the age of 17 she moved to Dickinson where she worked in childcare, Woolworth’s and also Firestone.
Fern was united in marriage to Robert Lawrence on March 16, 1946 in Dickinson. They made their home on a farm near Gladstone. She had belonged to the Rebekah Lodge, Homemaker Club and 4-H. She enjoyed drawing, doodling, watching soap operas, trips to the casino, and baking, especially cakes.
She is survived by four children, David Lawrence, Gladstone, Carlotta Ehlis, Dunn County, Roberta (Harold) Stroh, Troutdale, Ore., and Bob Lawrence, Gladstone; two grandchildren, Nathan Ehlis and Audrey Stroh; and two brothers, Gary (Millie) Johnson, Arizona, and Gene Johnson, Montana; and sisters-in-law, Alice Johnson and Zel Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on January 27, 1997; her parents; son-in-law, Herman Ehlis; daughter-in-law, Gladys Lawrence; sisters, Florence Krank, Hazel Lutz, Laura Ivey, Irene Olsen, and Edna Johnson; brothers, Ralph Johnson, Baird Johnson, and Duane Johnson.
