Florence Kussy, 101, Dickinson, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Florence’s Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with The Rev. Canon Zanne Ness presiding. Interment will follow at Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with family present to greet family and friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. to service time on Wednesday.
Florence Black (known as “Sis” by family & friends) was born August 26, 1916, at Emerson, the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Hewson) Black. She was raised southwest of Manning and graduated from Killdeer High School. She went on to attend beauty school in Bismarck.
Florence was united in marriage to Jim Kussy on June 24, 1944 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. They farmed at New Hradec until moving into Dickinson in 1985. Throughout her life and up into her 80’s she would do her neighbors hair.
She belonged to St. John’s Episcopal Church and Auxiliary. She loved to read and work in her garden.
Florence is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Kelly) Kussy, Dickinson, and Delmar (Nancy) Kussy, Dickinson; five grandchildren, Lori (Roger Berger) Jackson, Nicole (Todd) Redfoot, Brad Kussy, Chrissa (Patrick) Prestriedge, and Annie Michels; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Black, Minot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim on November 22, 1993; and two brothers, Harold (Cecilia) Black and Lawrence Black.
