Florian Urlacher, 87, Dickinson, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson with family at his side. Florian’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 29, 2017 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a St. Pius Verein Rosary & Vigil at 3 p.m., with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Florian Urlacher was born December 13, 1929 in Hettinger County of North Dakota, the son of Wilhelm and Anna Mary (Walter) Urlacher. He was raised on the farm and attended country school near their home.
Florian was united in marriage to Dorothy Hellman on October 27, 1953 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Hirschville. Together they farmed northeast of New England for 49 years. Following retirement they made Dickinson their home and since 2006 he has resided at St. Benedict’s Health Center.
He was a member of the St. Pius Verein, Knights of Columbus, German-Hungarian, and St. Anthony’s, along with being a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, playing cards and in his younger years going fishing. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and friends, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Florian is survived by his eight children, Charles (Alice) Urlacher, Dickinson, Clara (Mike) Schultz, Cottage Grove, Minn., Caroline (Radley) Takaki, Anchorage, Alaska, Clarence Urlacher, New England, Kenneth Urlacher, Mandan, Marvin (Cindy) Urlacher, Dickinson, Marlene (Andy) Dieterich, Minneapolis, Minn., and Arnold (Cindy) Urlacher, Omaha, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sally Dolechek, Dickinson, Leona (Andy) Roller, Laurel, Mont., Gina (Gene) Petermann, West Fargo, and Edwin (Arlene) Urlacher, Milwaukee, Wisc.; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Urlacher, Billings, Mont., and Emilia Urlacher, Dickinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and members of the Hellman family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on December 5, 2012; his parents; siblings, Valentine Urlacher, Leo Urlacher, Frank Urlacher, and infant Peter Urlacher; and one grandson, David Schultz.
