Frances Kary was born to Mathias Kary and Barbara (Heinert) Kary on August 28, 1927 near Hirschville. She attended rural grade school and also attended St Mary’s High School in Richardton and Central High School in Dickinson.
Frances married Joseph L. Glaser on October 9, 1945 at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church at Hirschville, near Gladstone. They were married by Fr. Joseph Wacker.
In 1960 Joe and Frances bought and opened the first Coast to Coast Hardware store in Bowman. This along with her five children kept her very busy. Aside from taking care of
her family Frances worked full time at the store. She and Joe took great pride in their new venture. They loved the challenge, the new friends they made and the camaraderie of fellow business people and customers. It wasn’t all work for them. They took time out for square dancing and loved dancing polkas, waltzes and good music.
They also enjoyed going to school functions with the kids, as well as camping and family gatherings. As their family grew up, Frances enjoyed their grandchildren and was always happy to see them come home. The holidays were always special.
They sold their business in Bowman in 1971 and bought into the store in Dickinson. After a few years they sold the store and took some well earned time off to just travel and visit their families who were now very scattered.
Together Frances and Joe had six children, Carmelita (Jeff Karch), Richardton, Alice (Robert Karn), Fargo, Roberta (Douglas Scales), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, James (Jeanette Liang), Breckenridge, Colo., Dean (Wendy Moss), Gardnerville, Nev. and John Paul, who died in infancy. Frances is survived by her children and their spouses and her 38 grand-children and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Joe, and her infant son, John Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Benedict’s Health Center.
