Frank L. Meduna, 79, Dickinson, died Saturday, June 4, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius, Dickinson. Frank’s funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev.’s Lisa Lewton and Joe Natwick officiating. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Frank Laudie Meduna was born March 5, 1937 on the family farm near Zenith. He was the 12th of 13 children born to Vincent and Minnie (Ridl) Meduna. Interestingly, he was given the name, Franklin, however, Frank was printed on his birth certificate and that became his legal name.

Growing up on the family farm, he learned about hard work by tending fields, raising livestock and selling coal to help the family earn income. In 1955, he graduated from Belfield High School. Following graduation, he served in the US Army and National Guard.

In 1959, a friend introduced him to Ramona Schmitt. On December 28, 1960, Frank and Ramona were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dickinson. He remained a member of St. John’s until his death.

Over the years, Frank worked in Dickinson at various establishments including Johnston’s Distributing, Letvin Farm Equipment, Tractor Supply Company, Woolworth’s and Dan’s County Market. During these years, Frank and Ramona raised their four children, Teresa, Monty, Brad and Steve.

Upon retirement, Frank become involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving on the Honor Guard and a term as Post Commander of VFW Post 3444. Most recently, he worked hard to make the Stark County Veteran’s War Memorial become a reality.

For Frank, family was an important part of his life. He enjoyed the company of his siblings and their families, and took great pride in his children and cherished his grandchildren. He helped organize numerous family reunions and he took great interest in researching Meduna genealogy.

He is preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Andy, Vince, Edward, Willie, Minnie, Tony, Francis and Joe.

Frank is survived by his wife, Ramona and four children, Teresa (Dave) Buechler, Brooklyn Park, Minn., Monty (Judy) Meduna, Longmont, Colo., Brad (Darleen) Meduna, Surprise, Ariz., and Steve (Megan) Meduna, San Diego, Calif..; six grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Payton, Andrew, Cora and Elliot Meduna; and siblings, Charlie (Irene) Meduna, Henry (Judith) Meduna, Evie Meduna Beyers, and Art Meduna; sisters-in-law, Mary Meduna and Georgie Meduna; and also numerous nieces and nephews.
