Frieda Steckler was born on June 2, 1938 in Richardton, the daughter of Mathew and Florentina (Kuntz) Steckler. She was one of 12 children and grew up and attended school in Richardton. She married Leo Sand on July 23, 1956, and from this union five children were born: Leon, Connie, Stanley, Dale, and Brenda. On May 1, 1966, she married the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Klein at the Scranton Lutheran Church, and they made their home in Richardton. To this union two children were born: Cherie and Jeannie.
Frieda was first and foremost a loving wife and mother. These attributes she demonstrated always to her children. She created a loving and happy home. Her love of cooking and baking would serve her well in other endeavors. In her later years, she worked outside the home as a waitress, and also as a cook at the Richardton-Taylor High School. Frieda enjoyed being a mother and friend to all of her children. As a naturally happy person, she was at her best when with her family, friends, and her dog Chelsea. She also enjoyed many adventurous vacations with her children. She was a magnificent wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, loved by all who knew her. She will be forever missed.
Frieda is survived by her sons, Leon (Sandy) Sand, Dale (Tom) SandPepera; son-in-law, Terry Werlinger; daughters, Brenda (Rick) Large, Cherie (Randy Boone) Klein, and Jeannie (Brian Ihrig) Klein, 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Helen Hauck, William (Eleanor) Steckler, Martin (Irene) Steckler, Jeannette (Val) Freidt, Patricia (Gordon) Vaagen, Ronald (Donna) Steckler, Joyce (Neil) Johnson, and Jeannie (Charlie) Pugh.
