George Schmidt, a courageous veteran of the Korean War, a devoted husband, beloved father figure, and cherished grandfather to all, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the age of 92. His life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and country.

Born on July 19, 1931, George answered the call of duty and served his nation with honor and bravery during the Korean War. His selflessness and courage in the face of adversity earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his comrades and fellow servicemen.

On December 31, 1990, George found his true partner in Joy Rae (Skjefte) Link, whom he married, forging a bond that would stand the test of time. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams, creating a legacy of devotion that will forever endure.

Upon retiring, George and Joy settled in Killdeer, where they continued to cultivate their deep roots in the community. George remained an active and beloved member of the community, sharing his warmth, kindness, and generous spirit with all who crossed his path. He took on a new passion of restoring Model T’s and Model A’s.

In addition to his dedication to farming and his community, George cherished his role as a family man above all else. He was a devoted husband to Joy, a loving father to his stepchildren, and a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren, whose lives were enriched by his love, guidance, and unwavering support.

Though George has bid farewell to this earthly realm, his memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to inspire and guide us in the days ahead.

George will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy of love and devotion will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
