George F. Anton, 85, Dickinson, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck. George’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 3 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding.

George F. Anton was born April 9, 1931 in the Lefor area, the son of Christ K. and Katie (Blasy) Anton. He was raised 11.7 miles northeast of New England, here he attended country school. He entered the service in 1952 and was stationed at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. While in the military he served as part of the 44th Engineering 6th Armored Division, and was honorably discharged in 1953.

Following his return from the service, he was united in marriage to Hattie Krehlik on November 3, 1953 in Billings County. Together they farmed and ranched for 34 years, retiring in 1993. During this time he served on the Clark Township Board and School Board until the bus route came and would take the kids to New England.

He was a Golden Eagle, past member of the St. Anthony Club, and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, going on vacations to the west coast, British Columbia, Yellowstone, Niagara Falls, Canada, and many other states. Loved dancing to polkas and waltzes, and listening to old time country music. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Hattie; their children, Elaine Anton, Lincoln, Kenneth Anton, Montgomery, Texas, Beverly Anton, Bismarck, Patrick Anton, Fargo, LaVonne Viola, Chester, N.Y., Jolene (Kevin) Quinn, Lincoln, Dean Anton, Bismarck, Daniel (Joy) Anton, La Porte, Texas, Janice (Darrel) Hochhalter, Rapid City, S.D., Myron (Amy) Anton, Bismarck, and Mary Jean Anton, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Michael Quinn, Taylor Quinn, Riley Quinn, Ashley Viola, Darrel Hochhalter, III, Nathan Schmidt, Sarah Schmidt, Chance Anton, Tessa Anton, and Emily Anton; four sisters, Bertha Anton, Appie (Tony) Fichter, Cathleen (Victor) Oukrop, and Mary Ann (Don) Chantry; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Galen; parents; brothers, Martin, Albert, Edward and Donald; sisters, Eleanor Beaudoin, Jeannette Mischel, Anna Helfrich, Pauline Fichter and Helen Beaudoin; grandchildren, Ryan and Meagan Anton; two nephews, Jared Schulz and Arnold Anton; and one niece, LaVonne Oukrop.
