George was born March 10, 1917 in Dodge, the son of Fridolin and Wilhelmina (Wanner) Haag. Later the family moved to a farm one mile south east of Antelope where George lived until he retired. George attended the Antelope Country School, half a mile west from the Haag farm, for his elementary education. In 1940 George went to the mechanic school in Fargo. After his dad died, George came home to run the family farm with the help of his sister, Mary. George kept farming until his retirement in 1990. He decided to move to an apartment in Richardton.
His hobbies were collecting model cars, making wooden or metal puzzles and picture frames. George also enjoyed taking pictures and making 8 millimeter home movies. Family and relatives enjoyed these movies. While living in town, church services became much more a part of his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of St. Mary’s in Richardton. Loosing his senses of hearing and sight, George was more confined to his apartment. He did enjoy walking, but the people learned to move to the side of the road when they saw him walking or using his scooter.
George enjoyed his small scooter which he used to get around town and for grocery shopping. In his younger years, George took many trips to California and would bring bags of fresh walnuts that he would sell to anyone who would buy them. George entered the Richardton Memorial Health Center on February 9, 2006 when he became very sick, and the Swing Bed became his new home until his death.
George is survived by his sisters, Margaret Mook, Carmichael, Calif., Emma Haag, Bismarck, and Sister Veronica Haag, OSB, Watertown, S.D.. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank, Joseph and Peter; his sisters, Mary Palm, Minnie Schatz, Rose Schatz and Sister Regina Haag, OSB..
