Gerald J. Frederick was born on September 1, 1946 in Richardton, the son of John and Cecilia (Hauck) Frederick. He grew up on the family farm north of Richardton. Gerald attended two years of farm school and continued his education at St. Mary’s School and Assumption Abbey of Richardton.
Gerald was united in marriage to Darlene Praus on June 23, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton and to this union four children were born, Janet, Debra, Todd and Diane.
One of Gerald’s favorite ways to spend a day was building and creating something. What people considered work, he considered pleasure. Over the years, Gerald held many jobs in maintenance, management and truck driving. In addition to his “real job” he had an insatiable need to build things. Over the years, he (along with his family and whomever else he could rope into it) built multiple shops, 14 new houses, and remodeled nine houses, and a couple businesses. His retirement years were spent working part time at Amber Waves until his illness no longer allowed. He and Darlene owned and operated various businesses, leaving a legacy in and around Richardton-Taylor, the communities they always considered home.
He belonged to the Eagles Club, enjoyed building, woodworking, camping, vacationing with family and especially spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Darlene, Taylor; children, Janet (Jay) Solem, Williston, Debra (Emory) Vaagen, Taylor, Todd Frederick, Richardton and Diane Noll, Golva; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three more on the way; siblings, Louise Volesky, Dickinson, Frank (Celestine) Frederick, Dickinson, Harold (Peggy), Frederick, Yuma, AZ, and Kathy Welk, Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Kate Zeece, Richardton, Dorothy Frederick, Richardton, Alice Christianson, Dickinson, and Cheryl Frederick, Peabody, KS.
