Gerald W. Emmil, 52, Bismarck, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Bismarck. Memorial services for Gerald will be at 1 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2014 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Fr. Gary Benz presiding. Inurnment will take place at St. Pius Cemetery, Schefield.

Gerald was born June 21, 1961 at Dickinson, to William and Luella (Urlacher) Emmil. He grew up on the family farm near Schefield and graduated from St. Mary’s High School, New England, in 1980. Gerald graduated from National College of Business in Rapid City, S.D. with honors earning Bachelor’s Degrees in Accounting and Computer Programming.

Gerald worked and lived in Detroit, Dallas, Albuquerque, and for 25 years in Everett, Wash., before moving back to North Dakota in June of 2013.

Gerald was a social man often striking up conversations with people. He had a keen interest in others, reading, facts and animals. He had a quick wit and a good sense of humor, and enjoyed sightseeing in the various areas he lived. Gerald was a helpful and compassionate person and an active volunteer member of his church, North Shore Christian in Washington. He was always interested in his many family members’ lives.

Gerald was survived by his father, William, Dickinson; mother, Luella, West Fargo; sisters, Karen (Jeff) Jirges, Dickinson, Jan (Jordan) Privratsky, Walford, Iowa; brother, Bruce (Pam) Emmil, Bismarck; sister, Laura Emmil, Fargo; brother, Leon (Leah) Emmil, Fargo; brother, Neil (Tracy) Emmil, Minneapolis, Minn.; and brother, Ryan Emmil, Fargo; as well as six nieces and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rollie and Anna Emmil and Dominic and Mary Ann Urlacher.
