Gertrude “Gertie” Evoniuk, 69, Belfield, died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson following a short illness. She was surrounded by her daughter and granddaughters. Gertie’s Parastas will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield with Fr. Taras Miles as celebrant and assisted by Deacon Leonard Kordonowy. Interment will follow at St. John’s Ukrainian Cemetery, Belfield. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Gertie Kanski born May 28, 1940 in Dickinson, the daughter of John and Polly (Paluck) Kanski. She married Emil Evoniuk on February 4, 1961 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and together they farmed the Evoniuk farmstead.
Gertrude was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family. Her biggest joy was her four granddaughters who gave her happiness, but many stress full moments with their shenanigans.
Gertrude is survived by two brothers, Steven of Illinois and Sy of Fairfield; two sisters, Betty (Marvin) Gregory of South Heart and Kay (Joe) Armbrust of Belfield; also she is survived by one daughter, Roxanne (Melvin) Binstock of Casper, Wyo.; one son, Robert Evoniuk of Jamestown; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Emil on March 29, 2001, four brothers and seven sisters. Gertrude will be missed by many but never forgotten for all the lives she touched.
