Gladys A. Kubischta, 75, Dickinson, ND, died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys will be at 10 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2007 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m.
Gladys Adeline Meduna born June 13, 1931 in rural Stark County north of Belfield, ND, the daughter of Alex and Pauline (Roller) Meduna. She was raised and educated on a farm southwest of South Heart, ND. Gladys graduated from Model High in Dickinson in 1950, and went on to Dickinson State Teachers College where she earned her teaching degree. She had worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Lariat Café, taught school at the Country Pack School for three years and then substitute taught until the family moved to a farm where she raised their children.
Gladys married John Kubischta on November 3, 1953 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson. They lived in town until 1963 when they moved to a farm north of Dickinson. Gladys and John retired, moved into Dickinson and built a home in 1998.
Gladys was a devoted member of Queen of Peace, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters and loved to recite the rosary. She was also a member of the Dickinson Eagles Club. Gladys loved and cherished her family and the time spent with them. She enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking, making cinnamon rolls and doing different types of needle work. Her trips to Nashville, TN to see her oldest granddaughter take her vows to become a Dominican Sister of St. Cecilia Convent, and to Texas with other grandchildren to see where John served in the military. Going shopping was always more special when she would run into someone she could visit with, and her many friends and the well known coffee gang.
Gladys is survived by her husband, John; their three children, Ken (Monica) Kubischta, Dickinson, Diane (Joseph) Wanner, Hebron, and Sharon (Philip) Wallace, Dickinson; eight grandchildren, Holly and Garrett Kubischta, Sr. Cecilia Anne O.P., Kristi and Kimberly Wanner, Chelsea, Stephanie and Kayla Wallace; four sisters, Martha Renner, Helen (Edwin) Kadrmas, Ethel (Charles) Weimer, and Jean (Mark) Silbernagel; and one brother, Ray Meduna. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Pauline Meduna.
