Gloria C. Steinmetz, 93, formerly of New England, died Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Bellevue, Wash. Gloria’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, New England with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Interment will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Regent. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Gloria C. Bender was born February 2, 1917, at Fairfax, S.D., the daughter of Alexander and Olga (Hartman) Bender. She was raised and educated in New England, having graduated from New England High School in 1937.
Gloria married Ted Steinmetz on August 23, 1942 in Wibaux, Mont. They purchased a farm east of New England in 1942 and in 1947 moved into New England. Together they farmed until their retirement in 1972. Ted died on October 23, 1978, and it this time Gloria moved to Washington where she resided in a retirement community.
Gloria enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking cinnamon rolls and breads, and visiting with family and friends brought her great joy.
Gloria is survived by her son, Alton (Nancy) Steinmetz, Bellevue; her granddaughter, Jessica (Stan) White, Mill Creek, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kyleigh, Bryce and Colton White. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, Esther Larson, and two brothers, Harry and Jake Bender.
