Gordon A. Svihl, 89, Dickinson, died Monday, January 18, 2021 at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck. Gordon’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Pastor Joe Natwick officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Gordon Svihl was born April 13, 1931 in Dickinson, the son of Frank and Agnes (Pirkl) Svihl. He was raised and educated in Dickinson through the eighth grade.
Gordon was united in marriage to Shirley Krug on July 18, 1964 in Dickinson and to this union four children were born, Shirley, Jeanne, Curtis and Tina. In his early years he farmed and later he worked jobs as a welder, most recently working in the oilfield for Flint Engineering. He took an early retirement due to his health.
Gordon enjoyed being outside in the garage tinkering and building, gardening, fishing, and camping. He found great joy spending time with his grandkids, great-grandkids and his four-legged friend, Chloe. He could be found building things, working on vehicles, watching and listening to his polkas, waltzes, and watching western movies.
Gordon is survived by his children, Shirley Deichert, Dickinson, Jeanne Svihl, Dickinson, Curtis (special friend, Lori Lindstrom) Svihl, Bismarck, and Tina Svihl, Dickinson; grandchildren, Nicole Deichert, Lisa (Mack) Elmer, Levi Decker, Andrew Svihl, and Sierra Lindstrom; great-grandchildren, Robert Deichert, Emersyn Decker, Lennox Elmer, and Cohen Elmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on August 1, 2017; all of his siblings, Henry Svihl, Emma Kadrmas, Lillian Svihl, Mildred Binstock, Ben Svihl, Albert Svihl, Betty Hatzenbuhler, Roland Svihl, Charles Svihl, Dorothy Svihl, George Svihl, and Blanche Payne; and his two four-legged friends, Axel and Lilly.
