Gus passed away peacefully in the early morning on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.

Gus was born on October 6, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, N.D., the son of Ann (Malarchick) Anderson and Arthur Anderson. In his youth, he loved sports and enjoyed basketball, jogging, hockey, and biking. Gus graduated from Dickinson State College with a B.S. Degree in General Studies. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on November 17, 1972. Gus was a contract painter in Dickinson and enjoyed visiting with his clients and sharing jokes and stories while he painted their homes with his easy sense of humor. Gus came home after a job with many a pie, cookies, and goodies as a “tip” for his hard labors.

Gus enjoyed nature and took his niece and girlfriend out on prairie roads to look at deer, pheasants, wild turkeys and other wild animals that they would come across on their Sunday afternoon adventures. Gus loved animals and continued throughout his life to care for lost or neglected animals in Dickinson and the surrounding areas. He had several cats of his own that he either rescued or took in. These loving animals knew where to find Gus for a helping hand.

Gus is survived by his sister, Lois (Anderson) Walker, brother, William Anderson (Shirley) in Yorba Linda, California; nieces, Lynn (Walker) Wyckoff (Tom), and Gloria Monroe; and his grand-niece, Kaitlynn Wyckoff; and Sammy and Skippy, his loving cats. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Donald Anderson.
