Harvard “Harvey” L. Babcock, 80, formerly of Dickinson, died Friday, February 5, 2010 at his home in Sidney, Mont. Harvey’s memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Beach with Rev. David Warner officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Beach Cemetery and military honors will be provided by the Beach Ex-GI’s American Legion Team. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Harvard L. Babcock was born December 18, 1929 in Beach, the son of Herbert Lee and Nora (Wood) Babcock. He was raised and educated in Beach, graduating from Beach High School as class Valedictorian. He went on to attend the University of Denver Accounting School. Harvey joined the United States Air Force and served four years state side as accountant.
Harvey married Claryce Maanum on June 8, 1957 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church In Benson, Minn. Following his discharge he worked for an accounting firm in Minneapolis, and it was here that he and Claryce had met. They moved to Mandan and then in 1959 to Dickinson where he opened his own CPA firm. In 1980 Harvey moved to Sidney, Mont., where he was currently residing.
Harvey enjoyed computers, keeping up with current affairs, sporting events, and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Harvey is survived by two children, Scott Babcock, and Tessa (Zane) Shumway, both of Terry, Mont.; two grandchildren, Lt. Joshua Shumway, Ft. Sam Huston in San Antonio, Texas, and Katrina Shumway, Terry; and one sister, Betty Douglas, Coronado, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, Claryce on July 5, 1985; his parents; an infant son, Bradley; and one sister, Velma Trainotti.
